Analytical Chemist (ICP OES)

£25,000

Based in Ellesmere Port

14 month Fixed Term Contract

A successful manufacturing company based in Ellesmere Port are looking for an Analytical Chemist to join their team on a 14 month Fixed Term Contract basis. The company is investing in a brand new ICP Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES) and are undergoing a project to invest €3m into the site across the next 4 years with a strong chance of this role going permanent in the future because of this.

Duties:

Reporting to the Technical Manager, as an Analytical Chemist, you will assist the Senior Analytical Chemist in providing a comprehensive analytical service internally and on occasion for external companies. You will use ICP Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) to perform trace metal analysis and determine the chemical composition of metallic samples. Your duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Contributing to continuous method improvement and the introduction of new analytical methods for new products
  • Performing gas analysis using LECO methods, as well as sieve analysis of particle size
  • Adapting and developing sample and analysis records, ensuring both quality and traceability
  • Maintaining economical stock levels of reagents and consumables and managing the storage and safe disposal of hazardous substances and reagents
  • Ensuring that all analytical areas are well organised and maintained in a clean and tidy condition

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A minimum of 12 months experience working as an Analyst in an industry setting
  • Experience of ICP analysis would be advantageous although training will be given
  • The ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, and as part of a team
  • Superb problem solving and organisation skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Confident, professional, and flexible with a 'can do' attitude
  • Although not essential, a degree gained within a relevant subject such as forensic / analytical science would be highly advantageous.

In addition to a salary of £25,000 you will receive 23 days annual leave which will increase with service to 25 days (remember the possibility of going permanent) as well as a flexible working pattern.
