Job Description

Russell Taylor are working with the UK leading supplier of substation control systems in the UK for the transmission and distribution network within England and Wales. This dynamic company is developing a control platform to enable the participation in National Grid Ancillary Services.

We are looking to recruit an Application Engineer, on either a contract or permanent basis, who can contribute to and drive the development of the Hardware and Software of applications, acting as a link between development engineers and customers.

The role of an Application Engineer will require the ability to:
- Assess energy assets and available control systems on site using technical surveys
- Understand hardware and software requirements required to control and monitor the energy assets for STOR, DSR, EFR, FFR etc
- Understand system requirements on site to fulfil National Grid and/or DNO test requirements in the Energy balancing and capacity markets
- Evaluate existing energy assets on site and advise on their potential use in the market
- Evaluate the potential of new or additional assets on existing sites to improve customer revenue streams in the energy markets
- Be the primary technical resource for field services and sales
- Act as a link between the development team and customers
- Provide expertise and technical support to customers
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure domain expertise and knowledge are utilised in proposed solutions to customers

Essential requirements

- Good electrical engineering background in transmission and distribution, and control systems knowledge is essential
- Current driving license
- Willing and able to attend customer sites both individually and with a team
- Willing and able to undertake out of hours work on a rota basis

Ideal experience:
- Use of battery storage as an embedded system in the power distribution network, and their use in ancillary services of National Grid, ie. Enhanced Frequency Response and Firm Frequency Response
- Understand various ancillary services and their use in the energy balancing and capacity markets
- Understand how to provide and implement Demand Side Response for commercial and industrial sites

- Excellent technical knowledge in a variety of systems hardware & software and applications
