CAD Design Manager

This exciting new role has come about due to our client opening their new Technical Services Office in Birmingham's Sutton Coldfield! You will lead and be be part of a brand new team comprising of Technical Services, Design Engineers, CAD Engineers and the CAD Technicians who will ultimately report in to you. Not only will you be taking a brand new role, you will also be part of an exciting time for this client as they plan to globally dominate their specialism in Construction Manufacturing.


You Key Accountabilities

* Review of customers order details, highlighting potential manufacturing issues, items outside of standard scope or potential buildability issues
* Overview of multiple projects ensuring team / individual KPI's are met
* Advising team members on the best method of manufacture for bespoke customer details
* Providing advice and support to Commercial team for initial enquiries on manufacturing capabilities. Where possible making suggestions as to possible changes to make an item fit for production. When necessary arrange samples and trials to check that the customers requests can be achieved.
* Provide estimates and guidance as to manufacturing times to allow costings and BOMs to be developed to capture actual costs
* Investigate and report material costings for projects
* Calculate material requirements for projects
* Develop improved techniques to increase throughput of the CAD and production teams
* Provide clear instruction relating to changes in the standard manufacturing methods to the CAD team
* Maintain the Design Protocol document which captures information on CAD processes, Materials and Manufacturing capabilities
* Investigate warranty complaints attributed to the CAD team. Review and implement robust corrective measures to prevent reoccurrence of complaints
* Peer review and thorough checking of details developed by the CAD team for projects to ensure details released match those requested by a customer
* Develop, approve and maintain CAD SOPs to develop structured method of generating production details
* Prepare and carry out staff appraisals in line with company policy
* Ensure that company policies are adhered to
* Assist in providing information to different areas of the business when required on product parameters
* Provide guidance on material selection and specification
* To be able to provide guidance on different coating options when required
* Generate and provide reporting methods on CAD team performance
* Create and present to customers internally and externally on CAD processes and manufacturing
* Attend projects meetings as required internally and externally
* Any other reasonable tasks as required by the business

Your Role

* Ability to build strong relationships, influencing and convey technical information with a variety of teams and senior management when necessary
* Build relationships with variety of internal and external customers
* The ability to remain calm and rational when challenges present themselves
* Strong understanding of sheet metal processing techniques, cutting, welding, folding and coating
* Generation of architectural and manufacturing details utilising different CAD packages
* Ability to plan, organise and prioritise work under pressure to meet deadlines
* High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
* Excellent communicator all mediums (e.g. writing, telephone, & face to face)
* Good time management skills


Your Qualifications and Experience

* Strong 2D / 3D CAD experience in AutoCAD and Solidworks
* Microsoft Office with strong Excel skills
* Be the go-to person for advice as to what is possible to achieve within manufacturing constraints
* Construction experience with a strong background in Rainscreen Façades
* Experience of managing a team of individuals at differing levels of ability and experience of mentoring inexperienced team members to allow them to reach their potential
* Experience of working in a large volume manufacturing business

Contractual Benefits

  • Salary £45,000 - £60,000 (depending on experience)
  • Annual guaranteed bonus
  • Monday to Friday hours full time (early finish on a Friday)
  • 24 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Pension contribution up to 9%
