Role: Certification Officer to Auditor (UK OR NETHERLANDS, BV)

Salary: £23,000 - 40,000 [Two bands, based on role]/ EU Equivalent

Location: Remote working / [Salford, UK] OR Remote working/ [Schiphol-Rijk, the Netherlands)

Introduction: - Russell-Taylor Group have a fantastic opportunity to support our client who is a group of companies headquartered in the United Kingdom. As a group, the client offers inter-laboratory comparisons, design and supply of laboratory test equipment, and accredited independent testing and certification of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Marine Equipment.

This role will begin as a Certification Officer with strong intention of becoming a Certification Auditor. Auditing work will be international - with travel and work in Europe, North and South America predominantly but is currently restricted under the COVID pandemic. Working will be from home under the COVID conditions, but with intent to base from the Office Head Quarters in Salford UK or if in the Netherlands then the EU notified body office in Schiphol-Rijk, as soon as is possible. The Certification Department offers certification body (ISO 9001:2015, IC Mark), UK approved body (UKCA, UKNI, Ensign) and European notified body (PPE (EU) 2016/425, MarED 2014/90/EU) services, and works in close partnership with Safety Equipment Institute, Inc. (SEI).

Role and responsibilities

Based within the Certification Services department, you will work directly with clients to register enquiries and lead their certification projects. Projects will require the processing of new and existing product evaluation applications to the range of UK, EU and Private product certification schemes. The work is a profession technical service and will involve evaluation of simple and complex protective products, arranging of testing, evaluating test reports, and drafting evaluation reports.

The auditing work will see you visit head officers, production facilities and storage facilities of producers of safety equipment, interacting with all client staff from top management, through sales, design, production, warehousing and delivery.

You shall report to the Certification Manager of our client, with day-to-day activities overseen by other Certification staff in 'Reviewer' and 'Decision Maker' functions.

Initial responsibilities (as Certification Officer) are:

  • Proactive liaison with Staff and Customers at all levels
  • Maintenance of good Customer relations
  • Fulfilment of written instructions and procedures
  • Handling of enquiries and development of quotations
  • Project management:- Preparing Test Commission, subcontracting testing, and handling the processes- Arranging and undertaking on-site sampling visits to schedule- Drafting certificates, and preparing relevant documentation for certification review and/or certification decision
  • - Handling, reviewing, and accepting corrective action for INSPEC and Partner Schemes
  • - Evaluating products against standards and/or requirements to determine compliance
  • - Contract reviews / application reviews

Future responsibilities (as Auditor) will become:

  • Project management:- Arranging and undertaking off/on-site sampling visits to schedule
  • - Handling, reviewing, and accepting corrective action for INSPEC and Partner Schemes
  • - Arranging and undertaking off/on-site audits to schedule

The Person; Key requirements:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a technical / scientific subject.
  • Lone working
  • Project management
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Familiarity and ability with Microsoft Office Software (i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Willing and able to travel, including some longer trips involving time away.
  • Ethical, morally courageous and professional.

  • Self-reliant, decisive and organized.
  • Open-minded, perceptive and versatile.

Additional desirable considerations for preferred candidate

  • Required: National / Regional Driving License.
  • Required: Passport. (EU passport required for Netherlands role)
  • Successful completion of an accredited quality system Lead assessor/auditor training course (e.g. ISO 9001:2015).
  • Registered quality system assessor/auditor or equivalent (e.g. IRCA).
  • Direct experience of the design, manufacture or testing of PPE.
  • Experience of certification activities (e.g. ISO 17065, ISO 17021).
  • Experience of laboratory testing (i.e. ISO 17025).
  • Fluent in written and spoken Second language.
  • Quality Management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Quality Management experience in a certification body.
