Job Title: Design & Validation Scientist

Location: Wirral, Merseyside

Salary: Competitive & 10% Bonus

Type: Permanent, Full Time

Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours

Russell Taylor has a fantastic opportunity for a Design and Validation Scientist to join a world leading company specialising in advanced materials science and engineering within ceramics, carbon and composites. You will be working from the Wirral site but will need to commit to very occasional travel which may include overseas.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply advanced CAD and computational modelling techniques such as FEA (finite element analysis), CFD (computation fluid design) for the design of new processes, equipment, or application designs
  • Ensure new designs meet the predicted performance through internal and/or external testing prior to being placed into service or the marketplace
  • Assist the CoE, Manufacturing and Application Development teams with the commercialisation and scale-up of new designs
  • Identify new technologies to assist design, validation, and computational modelling
  • Proactively assist with design, validation, and modelling of new application systems
  • Create links with external suppliers to conduct trials with their products
  • Submit capex requests in support of job function
  • Help with the development of new downstream processing to enable penetration into new markets or high margin markets.
  • Establish the need for technology change
  • Create design specifications so that technologies can link with standard TDP equipment
  • Maintain expert level proficiency with CAD, FEA and CFD
  • Model application systems to include mechanical and thermal aspects
  • Produce reports on projects when needed

Qualifications:

  • Relevant Engineering Degree, Masters or MBA educated (or equivalent role-based experience)
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in mechanical design
  • Experience in CAD, FEA and CFD
  • Proficient at computation modelling
  • Experience working for a large organisation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Operated in a similar decentralised business before with demonstrable personal credibility
  • Understanding of the Capex process
