We have an excellent opportunity for an Engineering Manager to join an established Food/FMCG manufacturing plant near Manchester.
Responsible for the safe and effective deployment of a Food Safe Maintenance Program, ensuring that Health and Safety and Food Safety are paramount in how the team delivers the program.
To support the Production Manager and Production team to exceed planned output targets and reduce waste in areas on a daily basis.
To constantly challenge working practises and implement improved ways of working.
To implement and manage a Performance Management system for the Engineering team, ensuring they are motivated and trained to deliver at the highest levels to support the Production team
To ensure that the teams are adequately staffed and that succession planning is in place to deal with employee turnover.
To manage the Departments costs within agreed budgets, with areas of overspend reported on in a timely manner.
To work with the Technical manager to improve the factory GMP standards in all areas.
To develop the PPM system such that planned and preventative maintenance is effective and that adequate stock holding of parts is maintained and accurate.
To work closely with Production on Process improvement projects.
To manage effectively all contract labour onsite to ensure that H&S or Food
Safety is compromised whilst individuals work on our premises
To develop and report key KPI's for the Engineering Dept performance together with corrective actions for missed targets
To manage the Overtime requirements to support the Production plan
To develop, lead and coach Engineering team to meet the business plan
To review shift patterns and manning per shift to meet the growing sales demand, proposing and implementing changes to rotas as required
To ensure cost effective buying of key spares, with accurate logging on PPM
To mentor both apprentices ensuring they are learning and working safely at all times
To develop key metrics that enable effective reporting of cost areas
To develop and own the contractor controls on site, ensuring that all Food and Health and Safety rules and procedures are complied with
Work closely with Production Manager and Engineering teams to identify process improvements, create and implement corrective actions
To drive out areas of waste and lost time to ensure a profitable growth of the business
Lead the team visibly on the shop floor, working closely with all team members reinforcing good practise
To Drive OEE >85% on all lines
Establish and maintain effective communication to promote close working relationships within the manufacturing and engineering unit.
Ensure the accurate flow of information to the right place at the right time.
To provide relevant KPI reports in all areas and projects being worked on in a timely manner (i.e. Daily/Weekly/Monthly)
Main contact for Insurers and inspectors on site, with excellent follow up on any corrective actions required
Training and Development
To undergo and commit to all training as and when required
To ensure PDP 's for all key members of staff are in place and reviewed on a regular basis to ensure staff are developed to full potential
To ensure that appraisals are carried out for all members of the team
To identify cost saving measures in the business, together with implementing plan to deliver savings.
To manage Dept budget identifying areas for savings and having robust systems to quantify overspend .
Drive Quality of work in the factory and in the workshop
Improve teams right first time
Work with Production manager on NC improvement
Health and Safety
Ensure that working practices safeguard the health and safety of all employees and visitors.
Through setting a good example and confronting unsatisfactory behaviour, help create a culture for an injury free workplace. Investigate all accidents and near misses
