Role Title

Senior Estimator

Purpose of Role

Responsible for ensuring that all tenders they prepare are in accordance with the business objectives and company procedures.

Undertake all work necessary to ensure the preparation of robust bids.

  • Commercial Manager & commercial team

  • Construction Managers


As per terms and conditions of employment; Base Office in Wiltshire, with some element of travel

Overview of the role

It is envisaged that the role will support the UK business in achieving the required level of turnover for the relevant business unit. This will be achieved by;

  • The development of key working relationships with staff, clients and consultants
  • Remain conversant with the current market trends and monitor possible price increases
  • Examine and analyse tender documentation and monitor possible risks/opportunities

Core responsibilities

  • Prepare tenders and cost plans
  • Develop tender strategy
  • Assess Client's requirements
  • Prepare preliminaries in conjunction with Construction/Planning
  • Prepare the Nett cost to enable regional manager to adjudicate Involvement in the selection of proposed subcontractors/suppliers
  • Manage the tender/cost plan process
  • Bid manage where appropriate
  • Ensure key issues are presented at the tender adjudication
  • Advise on alternative options & value engineering
  • Identify and assess risk and opportunity including proposals for managing documentation
  • Review contractor's proposals ensuring Client's requirements are met or amended accordingly
  • Negotiating with the Client and/or the Client's Representatives
  • Attend tender interviews/meetings with the Client/Client's Representatives
  • Continually liaise with other relevant departments and business units and/or core teams
  • Use Conquest & excel in the preparation of tenders
  • Develop and maintain external/internal relationships
  • Comply with Procedures, Policies and Systems wherever possible

Qualifications & experience required

It is expected that the individual must have attained the technical skills, and knowledge in the following areas

  • Minimum ONC or equivalent in construction related subject
  • Membership of professional body (e.g. CIOB, RICS etc.) desirable
  • Have at least five years experience working in a main contractor's estimating department
  • Have a good understanding of contract documentation and be able to recognise potential risks
  • Be fully IT competent
  • Have the ability to use estimating software packages e.g. Conquest
  • Have the ability to take off approximate and accurate quantities
  • Have an understanding of cleanroom construction
  • Be able to work on negotiated, single and two stage tenders
