Job Description

Assist in the design, development and qualification of components and assemblies used in the manufacturing of Hydraulics; prepare drawings, Bills of Material, calculations and test instructions to support manufacturing.

MAIN DUTIES

  • 2D and 3D design and drafting c/w assembly FEA.
  • Design initiation and drawing change control using established drawing office practices
  • Design of components for manufacture using core processes of machining and fabrication.
  • Application of Design for Manufacture & Design for Service methodology
  • Provide technical support for the Purchasing and QA departments.
  • Check designs of others within the department
  • Assist with prototype builds and design verification testing
  • Assist in the generation of project documentation
  • Assist with progression of product and process approvals
  • Work closely with other departments when required
  • Mentor new starts as and when.
  • Perform and verify Mechanical design calculations.
  • Produce detailed component drawings along with associated BoM's
  • Work with customers to explore and agree solutions in line with requirements.
  • Write and produce engineering and test specifications.
  • Work with concurrent projects to tight deadlines, both autonomously and as part of a team.

ROLE

  • Complete assigned project and sustaining tasks to agreed timescales to enable projects to be delivered on time
  • Document design and test rationale to ensure data is available to support future sustaining activities
  • Provide status update to project leader to ensure that project risk is managed accordingly
  • Check designs of other engineers to ensure BOM accuracy.
  • Use a combination of theoretical, virtual design and physical testing to verify that resulting product is safe, performs to specification and is reliable
  • Work with concurrent projects to tight deadlines, both autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Communicate regularly with customers to ensure enquiries are answered and progress reported in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with sales department to develop pricing solutions and bespoke costing.

Essential

  1. Engineering degree / HND/HNC + 3 years' experience in Mechanical Engineering.
  2. Proven experience leading or contributing to successful project teams
  3. Experience of using 2D and 3D CAD systems (Inventor FEA preferable)
  4. Understanding and interpretation of engineering and drawing standards
  5. Computer literate with experience of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills
  7. Good problem solving skills
  8. Flexible approach with the ability to manage priorities of own workload
  9. Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and a willingness to support other team members.
