Your New Role as our Packaging Technologist


The role will involve providing packaging technical support and assistance to the business. The Packaging Technologist will co-ordinate the investigation and the follow-up of packaging non-conformances, perform audits of packaging suppliers, manufacturing facilities, and quality systems, and will ensure that all packaging provided to our client is in accordance with its specification, and provides the functionality to meet the demands of the bottling programme.

Key responsibilities as our Packaging Technologist will include:

* To perform audits of packaging suppliers manufacturing facilities and quality systems
* To effectively communicate at all levels
* To report any non conforming packaging to suppliers and follow up corrective actions and return of stock
* To liaise closely with all departments to ensure the functional needs of the bottling programme are met
* To liaise with the Engineering Department to decide whether downtime is due to packaging or equipment failures
* Project work / investigative work
* To control non-conforming packaging products in accordance with the documented procedure
* To co-ordinate trials of non-conforming packaging
* To assess incoming packaging materials against specifications
* To advise business on improvements / developments in packaging
* To advise business on legislative and regulatory requirements pertaining to packaging of the finished product
* To assist sales and marketing in identifying specific customers needs and develop packaging solutions to support these
* To act as point of contact for packaging suppliers technical support staff during focus visits
* To provide technical support and assistance to Operations
* To carry out project work as directed by Quality Manager
* To ensure that all packaging specifications are up to date
* To assist in the checking and approval of all packaging pilot samples
* To organise and oversee production trials to ensure the suitability of new packaging materials
* To carry out appropriate laboratory tests against specifications to ensure functionality and durability of packaging materials
* To identify cost reduction opportunities whilst maintaining effective packaging solutions
* To select materials in association with the Supply Development Manager
* Attend first production / print runs at the packaging manufacturer
* To liaise with Finance to charge and recover costs from suppliers for non conforming packaging
* To be involved in obsolescent packaging materials
* To maintain HACCP within the business and ensure employees conform to specified procedures and standards


Skills required as our Packaging Technologist:

* A minimum of two years Packaging Technology experience, dealing with issues in a food manufacturing environment
* Proven track record of successfully working with packaging materials from a technical viewpoint
* New incumbents would be expected to possess at least 5 GCSEs or equivalent, including passes in Maths and English
* Full driving license
* FLT License
* Have the ability to communicate at all levels
* IT skills to support and enhance performance
* Ability to be autonomous and self-motivated
