Process Chemist

Location: Bournemouth

Type: Permanent

Hours: Monday to Thursday (7:45 - 16:45) and Friday (7:45- 12:45)

Salary: £30,000 - £35,000

Holidays: 24.5 + BH

Additional: Employer/Employee Pension 4.5%/4.5% and site bonus scheme, 210 hours, shift allowance 10% and overtime paid at x1.25

RTG are working in partnership with a leading aerospace manufacturing company who are experiencing growth at this time.

The Role:

  • To Ensure that the Treatments plant including ancillary processes and Effluent Treatment continue to meet Permit requirements and Statutory requirements, i.e. REACH Good Practice guides, COSHH LEV checks
  • To control the site effluent processing to ensure compliance to environmental standards inc Trade Effluent Office requirements and permit conditions
  • To manage the onsite storage and subsequent disposal of hazardous Chemicals & waste streams and to manage Haz Waste element of Waste contract maintaining compliance including with Waste Transfer Notes and retaining Part E
  • To produce and quality control Risk assessments and COSHH assessments for Effluent team activity
  • To be part of Site Emergency response team and
  • To attend EHS Mtgs as required inc environmental steering group ESG and local EHS Committee
  • To participate in maintaining Treatments to ISO14001 Compliance standards
  • To undertake the chemical analysis of treatment tank contents to ensure that they meet customer specifications.
  • Assist in second and third party audit activities including NADCAP and AS9100 criteria
  • To maintain and manage lab/test equipment including calibration
  • Technical review of documentation and specifications as required
  • To provide guidance and instruction to the effluent plant process operators to ensure effective and safe running of the site effluent plant
  • Ordering and inward verification/testing of chemicals and associated materials against budget and programme
  • Day to day running of the laboratory functions
  • To produce and maintain accurate records
  • Carry out salt spray testing in line with customer specification requirements
  • To provide guidance and instruction to the effluent plant process operators to ensure effective and safe running of the site effluent plant
  • To maintain work areas to target condition 6 S standards , inc Lab , Effluent treatment area and Hazchem stores
  • To ensure PPMs are undertaken by EPT team at L1 L2 and L3 in conjunction with Technical Mgr. and Maintenance Mgr., especially safety critical checks i.e. Tank inspections and Environmental Controls

The Person:

  • Chemical Engineering or Chemistry based qualification required.
  • The person will have worked in a similar role as a Process Chemist/ Production Chemist
  • Experience in COSHH, ISO 4001, and managing Hazardous Waste.
  • The ideal Candidate will have worked on an effluent plant but not essential.
