Role - Purification Scientist

Location - Nottingham/Loughborough

Salary - Competitive

Russell Taylor Group is delighted to be working with an award-winning UK based CRO, which is renowned for providing expert synthetic chemistry support to a variety of clients from pharmaceutical, biotechnology and chemical industries. Our client is going through extreme growth and is seeking passionate and driven scientific researchers to join their drug discovery and development teams. They are soon to move to a large, world-class research facility in Loughborough in the later part of 2021.

The Role -

  • Develop high quality, efficient analytical methods for purification, isolation, and analysis of small organic molecules
  • Identify, solve problems, and seek assistance on more challenging cases relating to analytical chemistry in a timely manner
  • Perform routine instrument maintenance
  • Provide high levels of compliance around data capture and work in a manner that protects clients' IP and confidentiality
  • Regularly update their line manager and liaise with clients on the progress of projects
  • Communicate with customers, clients, and external instrument engineers
  • Perform general duties such as upkeep and maintenance of the laboratories, buildings and equipment
  • Take a proactive approach to one's professional development
  • To attend seminars or conferences on behalf of the company from time to time as requested.
  • To travel to, or work temporarily at, other facilities in the UK from time to time as required

The Person -

  • BSc in Analytical Chemistry or a related discipline with industrial experience, or PhD in Analytical Chemistry
  • Experience of developing chromatographic methods for the analysis or purification of chiral/ achiral small molecules
  • Experience of interpreting UPLC, HPLC, and MS data
  • Experience of preparing and implementing COSHH safety assessments
  • Experience of using chemical drawing packages (e.g. Chemdraw) and searching for chemical literature to write and present research reports
  • Desirable for experience in developing methods for the achiral purification, isolation, and analysis of small organic molecules to support drug discovery programs - including the use of preparative HPLC
  • Desirable for experience in developing methods for the chiral purification, isolation, and analysis of small organic molecules to support drug discovery programs - including the use of preparative SFC and chiral preparative HPLC
  • Flexibility and a willingness to put in extra hours when required
