Location - Nottingham/Loughborough

Russell Taylor Group is delighted to be working with an award-winning UK based CRO, which is renowned for providing expert synthetic chemistry support to a variety of clients from pharmaceutical, biotechnology and chemical industries. Our client is going through extreme growth and is seeking passionate and driven scientific researchers to join their drug discovery and development teams. They are soon to move to a large, world-class research facility in Loughborough in the later part of 2021.

The Role -

  • Lead a sub-group of staff on research projects as directed by your line manager and provide regular updates
  • Design synthetic routes for the team to carry out the preparation, purification, and analysis of a range of chemical compounds as part of chemical development programs for them to be implemented at a large scale
  • Ensure your research group record and store key data online and keep laboratory notebooks
  • Use search tools to allow for literature searching and report writing
  • Attend seminars and conferences on behalf of the company and on occasion deliver presentations on behalf of the company
  • To travel to, or work temporarily at, other facilities in the UK from time to time as requested
  • To contribute and lead discussions with clients and potential clients
  • To contribute to the appraisal, training, and skills development of staff
  • To deputise for his/her line manager as directed by from time to time

The Person -

  • BSc, MRes or MSc in Chemistry or a related discipline
  • Previous experience of working within the pharmaceutical, biotech, fine chemical, or contract research industries with an emphasis on Chemical Development and Process Research
  • Previous experience training and mentoring other staff and leading a research team
  • Experience of writing and presenting research reports
  • Experience undertaking R&D projects in industry
  • Experience of using chemical structure and reaction search tools
  • Desirable PhD in Chemistry or a related discipline
  • Working knowledge of the supporting disciplines required for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient development, for example, solid-form studies, the regulatory frameworks within API manufacture, requirements for the delivery of pre-clinical materials is desirable
  • Published research paper or reports are desirable
  • Flexibility and a willingness to put in extra hours when required
  • Work independently and accurately with minimal supervision
