Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create a 'Knowingly Safe' working environment;
  • Continue to develop the 'Collaborative Behavioural' culture and 'One Team' approach;
  • Contribute to the delivery of the Framework Commitments;
  • Ensure that the principles of CDM are applied and relevant legislation is complied with;
  • Ensure Health, Safety and Sustainability standards are complied with;
  • Engage with the Designer to ensure a safe, buildable and efficient Detailed Design is produced and in a timely manner to allow efficient delivery of the Scheme;
  • Engage with the Commercial Team to ensure selection of the best Supply Chain partners;
  • Ensure all pre-commencement Planning Conditions are discharged prior to commencement on site;
  • Plan and prepare for delivery of the Scheme prior to commencement on site;
  • Ensure all Temporary Works requirements are understood and designed prior to commencement on site;
  • Plan, prepare and oversee the establishment of the site offices and compound;
  • Champion the use of innovative technologies and techniques;
  • Engage with the Risk Manager to actively manage risks and opportunities;
  • Engage with the Commercial Team to manage costs, and maximise cash flow and profitability and ensure any Changes in scope are captured and managed;
  • Ensure any incidents/accidents are thoroughly investigated, closed out and learnings implemented;
  • Ensure systems are in place to ensure that the quality of work is to the required standards;
  • Manage the Construction Teams and Supply Chain partners to ensure delivery of the Scheme in line with the agreed Budget and Programme;
  • Plan and co-ordinate staff and operative levels that are sufficient to undertake their respective workloads;
  • Ensure all internal and external reporting is completed at the prescribed intervals; and
  • Monitor and review individual performances, providing encouragement and discipline as and when required.
  • Ensure Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), Permit to Work systems, site inductions and safety briefings are correctly carried out.
  • Resolve any unexpected technical difficulties and problems that may arise.
  • Ensure and maintain strict quality control procedures.
  • Ensure site team keep site diaries up to date.
  • Effectively lead and manage direct reports ensuring appropriate competence is maintained, including annuals PDR's.
  • Monitor capability of staff and contractors to undertake current and prospective workloads and report to senior management.
  • Identify/assist in introducing new process, techniques and innovations on site.


  • strong leadership and a commitment for delivering excellence
  • NEC project experience
  • ideally with an infrastructure background
  • solid experience delivering complex civil engineering schemes either PM in a Water or Waste Water project environment
  • HNC or degree in civil engineering
  • valid CSCS
  • ability to work safely, motivate and manage site teams site as well as strive for exceptional levels of performance.
