Senior Systems Engineer

Russell Taylor are actively recruiting Senior System Engineers to work on water projects for their established client, a leading EPC company. Within the role you will combine your skills of PLC programming, HMI/SCADA programming, industrial networks design and commissioning of industrial control systems in a variety of projects.  

The role will be working closely with the Systems Integration Manager and the Project Manager to ensure that all project activities are executed to meet the project requirements in a safe and cost effective manner.

You will be a key part of the System Integration team responsible to provide an efficient and good quality design, implementation, testing and setting to work of all System Integration Tasks.

Away from supporting projects the role will support the Systems Integration Manager to build and develop the System Integration team’s capabilities to build an efficient and effective world class team.


Main Responsibilities

 Understand project scopes and balance client’s needs and expectations with project schedules and budgets

 Architecture big-picture solutions for your projects

 Network Architecture Design (e.g. Ethernet, ProfiNet, Modbus and others)

 Support the scoping of projects and define requirements for control system software and hardware. (e.g. WID & URS)

 Production of SI project design deliverables (e.g. FDS, SDS and others)

 Programming HMI/SCADA packages such as Wonderware, FactoryTalk, Win-CC and others

 Programming PLC’s such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Modicon, GEM80 and others

 Configure operating systems and virtual machines.

 Work with other project team members as needed to successfully share programming responsibilities as required

 Provide SI support to the Project Manager on medium and small projects, either disparate or grouped together under a technical programme of work,

 Be proactive in supporting a good safety culture within the team and ensuring all Health & Safety objectives are satisfied.

 Ensure the System Integration works are to the appropriate levels of quality and on time.

 Demonstrate leadership skills to positively influence others to achieve results that are in the best interest of the company.

 Have an input into Method Statements and Risk Assessments for all site based activities.

 Support the Systems Integration Manager to prioritise day-to-day workloads of the SI team in order to meet project schedules.

 Support the Project Manager/Systems Integration Manager in ensuring scope creep is identified quickly on the SI scope being executed by the SI team.

 Ensure that systems are thoroughly tested and faults are debugged prior to commissioning. Including maintaining full and complete test documentation. (e.g. FAT/CAT Specifications and Observation/Test Records)

 Involved in holding regular design reviews on all on-going projects to ensure compliance to the specifications and standards set out in the project standards. (e.g. Compliance Matrices)


Qualifications, experience, competencies and skills

 Degree in Control Engineering subject or (HND in Control Engineering subjects with 10 or more year of experience)

 Approximately 7 or more years of experience (proven expertise is more important than number of years).

 Thorough understanding of PLC, HMI and SCADA programming best practice.

 Expert level on at least one major PLC hardware platform including Rockwell (Allen-Bradley), Modicon, GEM80 or Siemens.

 Expert level in a least one major HMI/SCADA platform including Wonderware System Platform, Rockwell RSView SE, Siemens Win-CC or GE Proficy.

 Willingness to travel (up to 10% of the time) to customer sites as required for SAT and commissioning.

 Excellent systematic and methodical troubleshooting skills. Some troubleshooting overlap with interfaces to Instruments and MCC would an advantage.

 Sound understanding of the project delivery stages and SI delivery process (e.g. V-Model, GAMP)

 Promotes a safety culture on site.

 Strong communication skills – both written and oral.

 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

 Working on HAZOP’s would be an advantage.

 Good awareness of Network Security, White-listing, Switch and Router solution application.
