Job Description

The Support Engineer is responsible for providing effective support for Low Voltage Switchboards and Motor Control Centre design and build projects. This role supports the Senior Contract Engineer and technical/operational team with all aspects of the project life cycle, including quotation, design and implementation.

Principal responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Provide technical support and advice to contract engineers in assessing LV Switchboards and Motor Control Centre equipment and build-ability of proposed solutions
  • Expedite design, assembly, testing and delivery to ensure compliance of quality, budget and programme milestones defined for the project
  • Assist in reviewing and implementing safe systems of work for mechanical and electrical site activities, including risk assessments, method statements and impact / contingency plans
  • Assist in the implementation, monitoring and reporting of electrical installation programmes and activities
  • Manage defects and take appropriate corrective actions (assess potential impact of any defects on overall success of the project and escalate to the Senior Contract Engineer where appropriate).
  • Provide information and advice for asset management of mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Proactively assist the Contract Engineer with customer relationships to ensure full satisfaction
  • Assist the Contract Engineer with the achievement of customer performance targets and Perfect Delivery
  • Report any deviances from project programme to contracts Engineer
  • Ensure effective communication with relevant parties
  • Utilise company ICT systems currently in place
  • Maintain awareness of health and safety requirements and standards
  • Proactively keep up to date with the current and changing status of the projects
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate records for archive
  • Input into site activities where appropriate and required
  • Proactively contribute to effective teamwork
  • Maintain a professional relationship throughout and be a reliable point of contact on engineering issues
  • Promote and present a professional image to all stakeholders (customers, suppliers…) in all dealings
  • Provide key information for the commercial team on re-measures and claims

 

Qualifications and training

HNC/HND qualified in Electrical engineering or experience

 

Technical skills and experience

  • Experienced in the design of low voltage switchboards and motor control centres
  • Competent in the interpretation of technical drawings and specifications, with CAD experience
  • Competent and confident IT skills for using databases, word-processing, spreadsheets, planning tools, email, internet, etc.
  • Excellent organisational, planning and time managements skills; able to assist with multiple projects simultaneously without compromising on standards and quality
