Technical Assistant, entry level position- Lab setting

Location: Warrington

Type: Permanent

Hours: Shifts (rotating) Monday to Friday:

Week 1: 6:00 - 14:00

Week 2: 10:00 - 18:00

Salary: £18,000 plus shift allowance: £21,300 per annum

Additional: Parking onsite, company pension, life assurance etc

Our Client, who is part of a global testing & certification group - is looking to recruit for a Technical Assistant to work as part of their state of the art, specialist fire testing laboratory in Warrington.

The successful candidate will be provided with second to non training and the chance to progress within the group.

The Role:

  • Achieving and maintaining high standards of health and safety at all times
  • Principle Responsibilities for Handling and Preparation of Test Specimens
  • Maintaining and managing stock of steel sections on site, including ordering and marking up
  • Verification of incoming steel samples to ensure compliance with Hp / A and section size tolerances
  • Supervise and co-ordinate with Shot-blasting contractor
  • Liaise with fabricating contractors to ensure specimen preparation is timely and prioritized appropriately
  • Supervise and co-ordinate with clients when on site to ensure their preparation conditions and Health and Safety responsibilities are met
  • Liaising with and assisting the client, including contractors and third parties, during application of paint to test specimens
  • Liaise and assist Technical Assistants to ensure tests are set up to clients requests and in a compliant and timely fashion
  • Manage paint storage and disposal with designated waste contractor
  • Instrumentation of test specimens and preparation of diagram showing positions and types of all instrumentation used
  • Deputising for the Preparation of Test Reports
  • The preparation of the report may also require the DFT readings to be carried out on the test specimen prior to and directly after the test
  • Completion of internal systems using FIREMAN and any associated procedures designed for the effective operation of the department
  • Assisting with preparation of samples with respect to application of roller applied primer

The Person:

  • Overall attitude, aptitude and a general interest in physical testing/ Engineering type positions- is desired in this role.
  • Experience or knowledge of working to Standard Operating Procedures within strict Health & Safety Guidelines
  • Practical skills for using tools within a construction / engineering / shop fitting environment
  • Qualified to a relevant subject would be advantageous
  • Interest in materials testing
  • Experience of working in a target driven environment
  • Experience working in a fast-paced office environment
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Self-starter with good organisation skills
  • Proactive, logical and methodicalAttention to detail
  • Confident, punctual and well organised
