Cllr Phil Davies to chat to Wirral businesses about 2020 vision at Russell Taylor Group Networking Event

WIRRAL businesses will have an opportunity to hear about the borough's blueprint for the future at another innovative event being organised by Russell Taylor Group.
Following the success of the Bromborough technical and commercial recruitment company's first Meet Your Neighbours networking breakfast with a presentation by Alison McGovern, MP for Wirral South, Wirral Council leader Phil Davies has agreed to talk to the business community about his new 2020 Vision for Wirral.
The event, being held in partnership with Wirral Chamber of Commerce, is on Thursday, September 17 at Russell Taylor Group's headquarters at Marwood House on Riverside Park, from 8am to 10.30am. Hosts will be group chairman Peter Russell and Helen Cornah, director of Recruit Right Ltd.
With 2020 Vision – his five-year-plan for the borough - Cllr Davies has made a series of 20 pledges on which he is asking residents to judge him.
One of these is that £250m of public sector investment is channelled in to Wirral to grow the local economy.
Others include developing a workforce with skills that meet the needs of businesses for the future; deliver 250 net new businesses; simpler planning processes to encourage business growth and bring high speed broadband to 98 per cent of businesses and residents by 2017.
2020 Vision's wider concept also encompasses building and improving
7,000 houses by building 3,500 new homes, improving 2,250 private sector homes and bringing 1,250 empty homes back into use; ensuring all schools are rated “good” or better by OFSTED; increasing the Wirral tourism economy to £450m; helping more people with disabilities into work, education and volunteering; increasing efforts to deal with anti-social behaviour, including street drinking and noise, and tackling litter and fly-tipping.
Cllr Davies explained: “The 2020 Vision pledges – so named as the year
2020 is the target date to bring them to fruition - are very much based on what people tell me are important. It’s key that we have pledges people can hold us to account against.”
Peter Russell said he was delighted that Cllr Davies would be presenting
2020 Vision at the Meet Your Neighbours event and said: “We all have one common aim – to see our businesses and the local economy grow.
“The content of this plan is ambitious and will have far-reaching effects for everyone in Wirral so it is vital we get as much information about it as we can.
“This is why we are very fortunate in having Cllr Davies joining us to talk about his vision and to give the local decision-makers attending an opportunity to ask him questions.
“Also, like our last Meet Your Neighbours breakfast, it's a good chance for neighbouring companies in Bromborough as well as the wider Wirral business community to get together in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
“This will be the second of what I hope will be our regular networking events to meet and discuss topics of interest to us all.”
