Vital talks to ensure the future economic prosperity of the region have had input from Russell Taylor Group as plans get under way to create a new Merseyside powerhouse.
Russell Taylor Group chairman, Peter Russell, along with other business leaders, recently met Wirral Council leader Cllr Phil Davies to discuss the Council’s plans to create Wirral Growth Company, a joint venture partnership to bring economic growth, investment and jobs to the borough.
The £1bn development opportunity will transform Wirral and deliver growth including world-class residential, commercial, leisure and cultural offers in multiple locations across the borough, including Birkenhead, Wallasey and Bromborough.
Speaking after the meeting, organised by Wirral Chamber of Commerce, Peter Russell said: “We now need to ensure we not only put plans in place to have the local businesses and skills for this important £1bn investment but also we must make sure we retain and attract people into the area.
“Vital to the success of this initiative is to shout about the fact that Wirral isn’t just good for business but is a great place for careers also with companies like our own investing in new talent and developing our existing workforces.”
Cllr Davies added: “We are currently in dialogue with some of the largest and most experienced development firms and investors. By the end of the year we hope to have selected our preferred partner and start projects in early 2018.
“Redevelopment opportunities like Woodside waterfront and Birkenhead town centre are among some of the most interesting and attractive schemes anywhere in the UK and at property trade fair MIPIM UK we had a lot of interest from investors looking for projects with the scale and scope we are offering.
“For Wirral, this is a step change in how we encourage economic growth. We are demonstrating we are a ‘can do’ council, with the expertise and commitment to deliver multiple projects at scale and speed.
“We will put land and other assets into Wirral Growth Company and expect our partner to match that with money and skills.
“Modern councils are changing. We will share in the risks of development but, most importantly, we will also share the rewards and use that income to support the services Wirral residents rely on
“We have a rich history of innovation, creation and entrepreneurship. This new opportunity is a huge step in creating a new, modern Wirral from which we will all benefit.”
