Project Lead - Fibres (MATERIALS)

Location: Wirral
Type: Permanent
Salary: Highly competitive, includes (up to) 20% annual bonus dependant on company performance, x4 life assurance, enhanced company pension, EAP access from day 1.


Russell Taylor Group LTD is working with a global-advanced materials manufacturing and design company who are the forefront of innovation and who are constantly driving for sustainable technologies. They are looking to appoint an experienced fibre materials engineering specialist (or PM) who is looking to develop their career and manage a small team onsite; but also push this new department on.

The Role:

The primary purpose of the Project Lead /New Process Development role is to bring new processes and production capabilities to complement the Thermal Products Division that will enable step-change advances in the business. These changes can include (but not limited to) safety, cost, and product offering. There is a particular focus on ESG savings and targeting big benefits in line with the clients thermal overall ESG saving targets A secondary function of the role is to provide technical consultation and expertise to the Operations teams and to act as their liaison to the CoE. The role reports directly to the Thermal CoE Lead and would operate within their Wirral based site.

• Manage a team to introduce new strategic process technologies to TPD (team of two currently).
• Manage and be responsible for a budget for new technologies and innovations. The budget will be split into two parts 1, trials both external and internal to examine if they can deliver product needs; and 2, assist in Capex programs to implement identified technologies in their global network of manufacturing sites.
• Work in a safe manner, conform and with the ethos of zero harm for new innovations.
• Show and report supporting evidence of work packages within a managed portfolio of engineering projects.
• Work with a project management methodology and stage gate approach
• Provide mentorship and advance talent management.
• Assist the group in realizing the future needs of the product management group.
• Actively participate in the Think SAFE' processes (e.g., safety tours, etc.)
• Have adequate knowledge of health and safety regulations in order to ensure compliance within the areas of responsibility and ensure all statutory registers and records are maintained.
• Ensure all employees within the team are competent, adequately trained, supervised, and have the relevant information to enable them to carry out their duties safely.
• Identify new technologies to assist with the manufacture of products relating to the Thermal Products Business.
• Establish the need for technology change and participate in technology roadmap activities.
• Form links with external suppliers to conduct proving trials with their products.
• Bring in supplier technologies in house to conduct first off trials.
• Develop capex to enable plant adoption.
• Develop new downstream processing to enable penetration into new markets or high margin markets.
• Establish the need for technology change.
• Form links with external suppliers to conduct proving trials with their products.
• Develop product design specifications so that external technologies can link with standard TDP equipment.
• Bring in supplier technologies in house to conduct first off trials.
• Use internal resources and technologies to trial new innovations i.e., CoE development line.
• Form links with regions and plants
• Identify locations for trials of new innovations.
• Engage local team to plan and implement new technologies.
• Introduction of suppliers to local teams
• Coordinate with local resources to develop strategic capex programs.
• Conduct RA and management of change procedures.
• Form a strong link with the global operations team to action new technologies and large trials.
• Report on progress to enable project communication and integration within sites with project involvement.


The Person:

• Will hold an Engineering/ ideally Mech Eng Degree
• MATERIALS FIBRE industry background is essential; this can be for industries such as (but not limited to- insulation, glass, low temperature fibre etc.).
• Experience in managing engineering projects & associated budgets; whilst also being able to use analysis tools.
• People management/ leadership skills required as there is a small team currently (team of x2).
• Strong interpersonal skills needed to be able to communicate globally and across the business with various stakeholders throughout the design process.
