Role - Associate Director (Medicinal Chemistry)

Location - Nottingham/Loughborough

Salary - Competitive

Russell Taylor Group is delighted to be working with an award-winning UK based CRO, which is renowned for providing expert synthetic chemistry support to a variety of clients from pharmaceutical, biotechnology and chemical industries. Our client is going through extreme growth and is seeking passionate and driven scientific researchers to join their drug discovery and development teams. They are soon to move to a large, world-class research facility in Loughborough in the later part of 2021.

The Role -

  • Excellent scientific expertise in medicinal chemistry, in-depth knowledge of the principles of drug design, able to introduce new technologies and capabilities with the company
  • Extensive knowledge of small molecule-based drug discovery, with significant experience moving projects from conception to clinical candidacy
  • Understand the principles of the biological screening process, and basic pharmacological principles used in drug discovery projects
  • Understand the principles and practical applications of DMPK assays
  • Skilled in the use of computational approaches for accelerating the drug discovery process
  • Ensure all Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are communicated in training
  • Able to identify new technologies and capabilities that may add value as well as enhancing efficiency to the way we work and deliver projects
  • Lead and manage multiple teams to encourage innovation, teamwork, and flexibility
  • Contribute to the selection process of new team members
  • Support and ad-hoc requests by the senior management team

The Person -

  • PhD/post-doc degree in Medicinal/Synthetic Chemistry
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) working in the Pharmaceutical Industry
  • Experience managing teams in a research environment
  • Experience advancing small molecules from hit identification to candidate nomination
  • Significant management experience with an excellent scientific management skillset, with a strong interest and capability in the mentorship and development of direct reports
  • Significant project leadership experience successfully delivering medicinal and synthetic chemistry projects in support of drug discovery teams
  • Experience leading chemistry teams within the CRO sector is desirable
  • Extensive experience using computational tools to facilitate small molecule drug design is desirable
