Job Description

Purchasing Manager / Senior Buyer (Pharmaceutical Manufacturing)

This role is to lead the purchasing function and assist in the procurement of materials from suppliers worldwide and bringing them into the organisation at the right time, cost and quality to enable production of pharmaceutical products to meet customer's needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the NPD procurement process including souring new suppliers and materials as required
  • Manage commercial due diligence projects across all strategic materials (list to be agreed with Supply Chain Manager)
  • Manage change controls/CAPA's/Complaints/Deviations for the Purchasing department to ensure zero go overdue
  • Manage costs for the department with an aim for a purchase price variance of zero
  • Manage and improve processes and systems within the purchasing department
  • To assist in reviewing, agreeing, and maintaining the standard costs held within Oracle
  • Manage the training curriculum's for the department
  • Implement and manage the upkeep of supply agreements for strategic materials. To be agreed with the Supply Chain Manager, and with input from Group API Category Manager.
  • Build collaborative relationships with preferred suppliers to ensure continued supply
  • Manage the risk management project, with the assistance of the Buyers
  • Any other reasonable ad-hoc duty requested by the company

Previous Skills You Will Need

  • Management of New Product Development & Introduction of key materials
  • Advanced negotiation skills with evidence of negotiations and contracts
  • Target driven
  • Liaising and influencing senior team members
  • Decision making skills, ability to utilise various professional tools and techniques in the process
  • Ability to lead, motivate and coach
  • PPV analysis and control

Knowledge and Previous Experience

  • Understanding of procurement in large organisations including the full supply chain aspects of demand management, sourcing & purchasing, in a pharmaceutical manufacturing or related environment.
  • Global & Strategic sourcing
  • Recent contract management experience including Supplier Relationship Management and Key Performance Indicators
  • Knowledge of specification and Service Level Agreement development
  • Knowledge of contract management tolls & techniques (e.g. Porters 5 Forces, Value Chain Analysis etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience of systems and methods used in inventory management
  • Individual who is highly organised and can manage time whilst maintaining a sense of urgency and priority within the role
  • Ability to take ownership of initiatives independently and drive execution
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Regulatory and License updates on materials, and finished product dossiers
  • Building & developing supplier contracts
  • Supplier risk mitigation
  • Quality Management System
  • Proven savings initiative
  • Managing of Procurement projects - experience with demonstrable achievements
  • Ability to use MS Packages to a good level and experience with data manipulation and analytical ability
  • Experience with GMP / FDA
  • Oracle system knowledge / ERP experience
  • Experience of Tendering for business
  • Experience of initiating ways to reduce process cost
  • Standard cost management

Qualifications and Education

Degree or equivalent in Business, Supply Chain or Logistics

CIPS 5 or 6
