Recruitment consultant Ben Evans is about to make a splash for charity as he prepares to swim the full length of Lake Windermere.
Ben, based at Russell Taylor Group’s headquarters in Bromborough, will take on the Windermere One Way challenge on Sunday, September 2 to raise money for Claire House children’s hospice, the company’s charity of the year.
He said: “The 11-mile journey along England’s longest lake will truly test me both physically and mentally – it’s the equivalent of completing 708 lengths of a swimming pool without stopping.
“However, after having visited Claire House earlier this year, I couldn’t believe the work they do there and would love to contribute to this fantastic organisation.”
To prepare for his swim, Ben has already swum the length of Lake Coniston, which is 5.5 miles, and the three-mile stretch of Lake Bala.
He’s also planning to swim 10 miles this week and another 10 miles the week before the Windermere One Way event.
A keen swimmer all his life, Ben is also a cyclist and runner and has competed in triathlon events.
But he added: “No matter how strong a swimmer you are, nothing really prepares you for the challenges of open water swimming compared to swimming in a pool, with temperature currents and waves to contend with.
“Completing it will be an amazing achievement for me and a chance to support the hospice and the work it does for seriously and terminally ill children and their families.”
Rob Kurton, managing director at Russell Taylor Group, added: “Ben is taking on an immense challenge in aid of Claire House, a charity we have supported for many years and for which we have raised many thousands of pounds.
“It will be a test like no other and I know he will put every ounce of commitment and enthusiasm into it.”
