For Women in Construction Week, I’m proud to represent Russell Taylor Group but more importantly, I’m proud to represent the mindset that women belong in construction. Not as a token, as a statistic, but as leaders, decision makers, recruiters, Site Managers, commercial leads and future Directors. We all know that construction has historically been male dominated, that’s no secret but what often gets overlooked is how many great people are in this industry, including men who actively support, mentor and champion women. Real progress doesn’t happen in isolation; it happens when good people back good people.

Throughout my career in construction recruitment, I’ve learned one thing very quickly: belief is everything.

You have to believe you deserve to be in the room.
You have to believe you can handle the pressure.
And you have to believe that your voice adds value.

Because it does.

I’ve worked alongside incredible professionals both women and men who judge you on your work ethic, your integrity and your results. The best leaders I’ve met in this industry don’t care about gender! They care about performance, reliability and attitude and when you bring that to the table, you earn your place. That said, let’s be honest here - stepping into construction as a woman can feel intimidating and it did for me first time I went out on a site visit. Sites can be overwhelmingly busy, meetings are direct & expectations are high, but that environment builds resilience, confidence and credibility.

The truth is, there are strong allies across this industry. Men who advocate for us in meetings, men who recommend us for promotions & who treat us as equals. That support matters and it very much deserves recognition too.

Women in Construction Week for me isn’t just about celebrating women, It’s also about reinforcing that we belong here and acknowledging the people who help drive that change forward.

My message to any woman considering construction is simple: Be bold, back yourself, speak up & grab the bull by the horns.

Don’t change who you are to succeed here, own it. Graft, learn & listen. Construction is about building and we are building stronger careers, stronger networks and a stronger industry together & I’m proud to be part of that journey with Russell Taylor Group.
