JOBS for a local workforce are top of the Russell Taylor Group recruitment agenda as ambitious plans to change the economic fortunes of Wirral begin to take shape.

Multi-million pound urban living and office developments are currently under way as investment in Birkenhead becomes a major focus for construction companies Graham and Morgan Sindall.

Graham are building 500 apartments on the Wirral Waters site while Morgan Sindall are developing £75 million-worth of office space close to the town centre.

Key to the success of both ventures is the hiring of highly skilled construction management professionals.

Amanda Winder, manager of Russell Taylor Group’s Construction Management Division, said: “These projects on our doorstep are at the heart of regeneration plans for Birkenhead and will have major impact on the economic future of the wider Wirral area.

“Our focus is on placing local people in roles to manage the construction teams who will bring the vision of a thriving Wirral to reality and re-inforce the belief that employing a local skilled workforce is a way of bringing life back to our local communities.”

Construction work by Graham on the £130m development currently known as Wirral Waters One is set to be the biggest single development to date at Peel L&P’s Wirral Waters and forms part of one of the largest and most sustainable regeneration projects in the UK.

The one and two-bedroom waterfront apartments, including 100 affordable new homes, have been designed with sustainability at their core, using a range of energy efficient and low carbon technologies to reduce carbon emissions.

The Morgan Sindall development will see two five-storey office blocks, totalling 150,000 square feet, being constructed as part of Wirral Growth Company’s £1 billion masterplan for Birkenhead town centre. One building will be occupied by Wirral Council while the other will be built speculatively.

Both will be at the centre of a new business and leisure quarter being developed by the growth company, a joint venture between Wirral Council and Muse Developments.

The office development, due to be completed in autumn 2023, will be followed by the creation of a new market hall on the former House of Fraser site as well as around 650 homes, a 110-bedroom hotel and a 300-space car park.

Rob Kurton, managing director at Russell Taylor Group, said: “Developments such as these by Morgan Sindall and Graham are part of an ambitious programme of growth over the coming years for a part of Liverpool City Region that’s currently being given a new lease of life.

“Affordable and sustainable housing along with the provision of grade A office accommodation are high on the list of priorities to revitalise the Birkenhead and Wallasey docklands and give a much-needed boost to the area.

“For our part, we see hiring a local workforce as a vital part of these regeneration plans with the expertise of highly skilled construction management professionals ensuring their successful delivery.”

Amanda added: “Getting local construction managers in place to help run these multi-million pound projects only strengthens our commitment to the communities where our business has its roots and where filling job vacancies with people who live here can make such a difference to the area’s economy.”
