Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deal with customer requests and identify the requirements
  • Cost estimation for design engineering related opportunities
  • Design voltage control and protection electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, cable diagrams and any other engineering drawing as deemed necessary by the Projects stream within Fundamentals Limited
  • Control panels Design and produce general arrangement drawings and bills of material
  • Insulation test schedules, control panel functional test schedules, FAT schedules
  • Produce required reports and certificates for the schedules described in the point above
  • Test and commission control panels and control schemes
  • Any other duties commensurate with your role

Education and Qualifications:

  • HND, HNC, a degree in electrical engineering or equivalent qualification or experience
  • AutoCAD electrical certification
  • AutoCAD electrical experience; a minimum of 3 years user experience

The following qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential

  • Authorised to work in UK DNO substations
  • Current or previous safety related certification (CCNSG safety passport, BESC, etc.)

3D design certification in SolidWorks or equivalent

Experience, skills and Knowledge

  • A strong background in general electrical engineering and electrical circuit theory
  • Ability to read, understand and communicate through technical specifications and drawings and demonstrate a good standard of verbal and written English
  • Produce electrical design schematics for substations using AutoCAD electrical
  • Experience of producing schematics, wiring diagrams, core and cable schedules and control panel general arrangements in 2D and 3D
  • Produce bill of material files (BOMs/QOMs) and customer quotes through customer specification documents and requirements capturing
  • Customer support and customer interfacing

The following knowledge and experience would be advantageous but is not essential, although in the role you should work towards gaining competency in:

  • Working within electrical substations
  • Designing and draughting voltage control schemes
  • Designing and draughting electrical protection schemes
  • Power systems and electrical substation arrangements and the equipment that can be found there including tapchangers and voltage control schemes
  • Electrical substation control panels design, especially voltage control panels
  • Power systems load flow and fault level analysis
  • System automation; using PLCs or similar
  • Software programming; e.g. Python, VBA
  • Protection and voltage control settings calculation
