Russell Taylor Group have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Operations Manager to join a large contract testing facility in the Northwest region.

This individual will have previous experience working in a substantial testing facility and will have experience of managing a large group of people. You will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the laboratory and will work closely with the department managers whilst reporting into the general manager. The main aim of the Operations Manager will be to ensure efficiency of the laboratory whilst maintaining high levels of safety, quality, and service.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure laboratory operation has the capability to deliver the services that they are required to support the testing function of the business. Building up a good relationship with the laboratory team.
  • Focus on LEAN Management processes
  • Ensure that the environmental and health and safety conditions of the laboratory are always appropriate.
  • Implement and understand the company safety policy and procedures and ensure that a "safe working environment" are in place for all activities undertaken.
  • Make sure that the QC and QA programmes are maintained
  • When required participate in projects to help improve existing facilities and services.
  • Maintain operational standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and on-time delivery.
  • Monitor utilisation patterns of lab personnel and advise the lab management team and other appropriate staff of developing trends in service needs.
  • Ensure that equipment/instrumentation are maintained and serviced in line with regulatory standards.
  • Monitor utilisation patterns of laboratory equipment / instrumentation -advise department heads and other appropriate staff of developing trends in service needs.
  • Daily walk around in laboratory to assess the effectiveness of operations.
  • Be involved with HR Management functions (promotions, recruitments, promotions & performance appraisals).
  • Assist the General Manager in the delivery of financial / quality / HSE reporting.

The Person

  • Educated to a degree level in a Scientific/Technical Field
  • Substantial previous experience working in testing laboratory, ideally to ISO 17025
  • Experience in LEAN Management processes
  • Experience of managing a large team and training individuals.
  • Confident and assertive
  • Ability to motivate other staff members and build a good team environment.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety and Quality processes within a laboratory environment.
